Memories of an old Portsmouth family | Nostalgia
Andrew also tells me about his family from Landport. He says: ‘Your photo of the street map of Landport reminded me of my father John Wesley August.
‘He lived at 6 Amelia Street with his first wife Elizabeth Kate. Six of their children were born there, John Wesley; Harry George; Doris May; Charles David; Victor Albert, and Edward Raymond. John Wesley was also known as Jackie Bryant because of the amount of time he spent with Bryant's the coal merchants.'My grandfather, William Charles, lived at 19 Charlotte Street and ran The Turtle pub in that road. He also had a fruit and veg shop and later the paper shop there. He also had stables but I’m not sure if they were in Landport View or Pye Street. My father took me to see them before they were demolished when the Tricorn was built.’
