Chance in a million to meet the king of romance
Thirty years ago this month Engelbert Humperdinck, the 1960s crooner, paid a promotional visit to Havant Hypermarket (now ASDA) to promote Universal Spaceframes, a pvc firm from Stubbington, near Fareham.
Sixty fans were waiting for the superstar who arrived an hour late.
He had driven in his Rolls Royce from his home in Leicester for the one-off visit.

‘It was a chance in a million,’ breathed a hesitant Mrs Chrystal at the time. ‘I just dumped everything at home to come and meet Engel.’
