Witnesses living nearby said it was lucky nobody else was seriously injured and added they were baffled at how the collision took place, as the road was ‘very quiet’.
One passer-by, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘I came outside and saw all the police on the road.
‘They must have crashed into the side of the lorry – it’s cut the car apart like a tin opener.

Andy Allright, 60, lives in Northern Parade opposite the crash site. He said: ‘I was up in my loft and heard this mighty great bang.
‘But nobody saw anything or how it happened.
‘If this had happened on a normal day, with people walking about, I dread to think what could have happened. It was lucky it was quiet.’
