One appliance from Havant Fire Station attended the controlled bonfire in West Leigh at 12.57am, after a neighbour called to complain about the blaze.
The fire crew spent less than half an hour putting out the fire, which had been started and controlled safely by the residents, according to watch manager Gary Tyler.

‘It was pretty safe what they were doing, and we put it out because of the contents – not because of the size of the fire.’
It is against the law to burn any waste in your garden that can create pollution or damage human health, such as plastic or treated wood.
Mr Tyler added: ‘The residents were quiet young, and they didn’t know they shouldn’t burn stuff like that.

‘It’s so low level we wouldn’t want to involve the police unless we deemed it necessary.’
