Winchester City Council, which covers Whiteley, Denmead and Bishop’s Waltham, decided at its meeting on Thursday to approve the increase in order to maintain services.
Council leader Stephen Godfrey said: ‘This extra council tax will allow us to continue with sensible measures to promote businesses across all parts of the district to encourage even more people to shop and do business in our district and to visit this wonderful area.’

Hide AdThe total council tax charges for services for 2016/17 will be £2.51 a week for the average household - an increase of less than 9p a week.
Residents will also see precepts rise by 3.99 per cent for Hampshire County Council, as well as two per cent for police and two per cent for the fire service.
