Hide AdWithin half an hour, the tree had been chopped up and the road was cleared.
Jay, who was on his way home after going for a Sunday roast with his family, said: ‘We were all on the way back home when I saw the police dealing with the fallen tree, they were struggling to move it.
‘I took everyone else home, got my chainsaw out and went back to give them a hand.
‘Luckily I had a brand new chainsaw blade so it got through the tree fairly quickly – it only took about 25 minutes.’

Tweeting from the @WinchesterCops account, they said: ‘Thank you so much to Jay who stopped to cut up a tree down this evening with his chainsaw! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork.’
Jay, who lives in the village, said he simply wanted to do something for the benefit of the local villagers.
He said: ‘It’s just about helping people out.
‘It was tipping it down with rain and I wanted to help the police get it done.
‘There weren’t many people on the roads but the police officers were stuck outside in the storm.’
