Storm Dennis: Met Office issue fresh weather warnings as storm set to bring heavy rain and wind to Portsmouth this weekend

Yellow alerts for heavy rain as well as strong winds will be in place throughout the coming weekend.
Storm Dennis will arrive less than a week after Storm Ciara brought gales across the Portsmouth area causing disruption and resulting in the death of a man in Hampshire.

Hide AdThe Met Office has now issued a yellow weather warning for rain between noon on Saturday and 9pm on Sunday as well as one for wind between 10am on February 15 and 11.59pm on February 16.
Residents are being advised that Storm Dennis will bring very strong winds over the weekend as well as spells of heavy rain at times.
Forecasters have also warned that ‘some flooding is possible along with disruption to travel’.
However the impacts of Storm Dennis are not expected to be as extreme as Storm Ciara last weekend, the Met Office has said.

Hide AdIn the current long-range forecast for the weekend, it is predicted that winds will reach speeds of 57mph on Saturday evening with heavy rain expected throughout Sunday in Portsmouth.
The Met Office also says that it is possible that there will be ‘power cuts and loss of other services’ to some homes and businesses over the weekend.
On its website the forecaster adds: ‘Around 20-40 mm of rain will fall widely with 50-80 mm likely across higher ground.
‘This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall.

Hide Ad‘The strongest winds are likely to be on Saturday afternoon and evening, with a lull overnight, before increasing again during Sunday.
‘Gusts of 50 mph are expected widely inland. Around the coasts, especially in the west and south, gusts of 60-70 mph are likely.
‘The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain at times, leading to particularly poor driving conditions.’
