Where sailors could rest no more '“ Aggie's blitzed
Above we see a view along Chandos Street from Commercial Road towards the Royal Sailors’ Rest, or Aggie’s as it was always known after Agnes Weston who founded the homes for sailors. It was another of the marvellous buildings destroyed on the night of January 10, 1941.
Anyone reading the book who has a story to tell concerning the photographs or thinks I’ve made an error, please let me know so I might correct it in the next print run.
