Hide AdCurtis  was handed his Republic of Ireland senior debut by O'Neill in his country's 0-0 friendly draw against Northern Ireland last month.Â
The Pompey winger also won his first competitive cap in the goalless stalemate against Denmark in the Nations League.
Curtis was beginning to establish himself in O'Neill's squad before his departure.Â
The former Derry City man had been included in the Green Army's past two set ups following promotion from the under-21a, although he was an unused substitute on both occasions.Â

Hide AdMcCarthy is currently surveying Ireland's current pool of players as he looks to guide them to the 2020 European Championships.Â
Curtis' aim is to clinch a berth in the 59-year-old's squad during the next international break in March.
And after registering seven goals and eight assists at Fratton Park this season, the charismatic forward believes maintaining those high standards will see him selected by McCarthy.Â
'˜When I came to Portsmouth I was scoring and creating goals and that i s how I got my chance,' said Curtis.

Hide Ad'˜Now I'm back hopefully I play well and the new manager sees me shining.
'˜Of course you always have to prove yourself.
'˜You always have to keep your standards high and raise the bar '“Â that is the hope anyway.
'˜For me, if I do well here then they'll pick me again.
'˜You learn a lot (on international duty), something new every day.
'˜The boys welcomed me in well and talked to me '“Â they're not big headed or anything.
'˜I know James McClean from back home and Shane Duffy so we already have a good relationship.'
