Hide AdTom Eaves and Alex Lacey's strikes created an unassailable lead, despite the Blues' improved second-half showing.
That coincided with Thompson introduced off the bench along with David Wheeler at the interval.
And the Millwall loanee admitted little went the Blues' way.
He said: '˜We've been on a fantastic run , you can't keep it going the whole season, you are going to have days when it just doesn't quite go for you.

'˜We gave away a couple of goals we shouldn't have, that's football, it's not going to go for you every week. You've just got to take that on the chin and learn from it.'
