But Webster admitted that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a wrench to leave Fratton Park.

Hide Ad‘I’ve been here since I was about 11 and in the first team for quite a few years now.

Hide Ad‘It was a massive step in the right direction, and I’ve literally got no doubt the club will go up next season.
‘Pompey will soon be back in the Championship if not the Premier League.’
Webster explained it was talks with Paul Cook which paved the way for his departure, after Ipswich made their move.
He feels he can leave Fratton Park with his head held high.
Webster said: ‘I’ve been committed to Pompey from my first moment at the club to the last.

Hide Ad‘There was interest but when Ipswich said they wanted to come and pay money for me it was different.
‘It’s a big change, but I feel it’s come at the right time.

‘He said it’s a great opportunity for me and a chance to go there and do well. I couldn’t turn it down.
‘Now I’m at a Championship club and that’s because of hard work.

Hide Ad‘I’m delighted about that, but Portsmouth will always be close to me.
‘Pompey will always be in my heart and if Ipswich don’t have a game I’ll always come and have a watch.
‘I’ve got great memories of my time there and I will never forget them.’
